However, we did encounter a minor setback with our new pasture fencing. Let's dive right in and catch up on all the farm news! 1. Alpacas Discover the Splash Pad: This week, our adorable alpacas had a delightful first experience in the splash pad. With the summer heat in full swing, we decided to introduce them to this refreshing water play, and they absolutely loved it! The alpacas gleefully frolicked and splashed around, enjoying their newfound aquatic adventure. It's heartwarming to witness their joy and see them cool off during hot days. 2. Farm Tours Begin: We're excited to announce that our farm tours have officially started and have been met with enthusiasm. Visitors have been enjoying Fluffy Honey Farm and getting closer look at our beautiful alpacas. It's been a pleasure sharing our passion for these remarkable creatures. The farm tours have been a wonderful success so far, and we can't wait to welcome more visitors in the weeks to come. Each visitor is a blessing to our farm, in supporting our efforts to continue to provide the best care and expand our space to grow our farm into the future. Thank you so much for all of our visitors for your amazing and much appreciated support. 3. Farm Store Merchandise: During the farm tours, we are creating a farm store of merchandise that visitors can take with them as a token of remembering the experience they shared with our beloved alpacas. - Handmade Crocheted Products: Explore our collection of cozy hats, fingerless gloves, and more to come, expertly crafted from the luxurious alpaca yarn by yours truly! - Alpaca Yarn: Knitters and fiber enthusiasts will find exquisite alpaca yarn, available in fun dyed colors This yarn is perfect for creating soft and warm garments. We are hoping to increase our yarn inventory in the coming months especially come September with our very own alpaca's yarn coming back from the mill. We are very excited to finally have our hands on our girls' products. - Farm Fresh Eggs: Depending on availability, we offer farm-fresh eggs laid by our happy, free-range chickens. These eggs are a true delight for breakfast or baking. We've received comments from our customers that the yolks are deliciously deep orange and that they are noticeably higher quality for baking. - Survival Kits: For the adventurous souls, we have curated survival kits that include alpaca fiber for tinder, ensuring you're well-prepared during outdoor excursions. Finally, we've also added alpaca fiber bird nest material to support local bird populations and their nesting endeavors. 4. Herd Health Update: Maintaining the well-being of our alpacas is our top priority. We're pleased to report that our recent herd health check went smoothly, and all our alpacas are healthy and thriving. We are dedicated to our sweet alpacas and ensures they receive proper nutrition, regular veterinary care, and a loving environment to keep them happy and stress-free. 5. Snag in New Pasture Fencing Construction: While progress is often smooth sailing, we've encountered a minor hurdle during the construction of our new pasture fencing. Unfortunately, the auger we were using broke down, temporarily delaying the completion of the project. Rest assured, man of the hour Michael is actively working to resolve the issue and resume the construction as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding. That wraps up this week's updates from Fluffy Honey Farm. We've witnessed the joyous alpacas in the splash pad, successfully launched our farm tours, and curated an enticing array of merchandise in our farm store. Despite a minor setback with the pasture fencing construction, we're committed to overcoming challenges and providing the best experience for our alpacas and visitors alike. Stay tuned for more exciting updates in the weeks to come as we continue to celebrate the wonders of our alpaca haven at Fluffy Honey Farm! Check back in at the end of the month for the next updates as we are heading to Grand Teton for a family fun road trip adventure. The alpacas will be well cared for in the hands of our farm sitter!

![]() June 1st, after waiting a month or so for Foxy to deliver, a stirring occurred in the barn. Foxy was agitated more than usual over the last few weeks and I could tell she was incredibly uncomfortable. The night before she was pushing herself into the hay feeder, itching her stomach like crazy and switching between standing and sitting continuously. There as a baby in the birth canal for sure. The next day I watched her vigilantly, and sure enough around 10 am she started squatting every 2-3 minutes. She was in labor. At first we thought she might have had a stalled labor due to failure to dilate because she is an older maiden. However, after two hours of pushing and nothing happening we saw the nose and hoof emerge. Things were going smoothly after that. After an hour and 15 minutes of pushing Foxy finally gave birth to Mr. Frodo Baggins. He is a sweet grey boy. Foxy took a break for a few minutes while we toweled him off and made sure his lungs were clear. She bled a little bit but she healed well. Once she regained her strength she was right next to Frodo singing her hums to him and lick kissing him all over and sniffing him. She was immediately the most attentive mother thus far on our farm. Not only was she attentive but she was beaming with pride. Though animals cannot speak to us, if we listen with our other senses we can communicate effectively with them. Foxy was definitely telling me yesterday "this one is mine!" with excitement. Foxy was ever patient with Frodo and helped him figure nursing out as best she could. We helped too, and he nursed a few times on his own well. We milked Foxy out and she was not a fan of that but was agreeable to it. Give her large size she could have easily been more bullish about the process but she gave little hums of disagreement but allowed the process nontheless. Frodo took some time to get his bearings so we put them in our little cria stall overnight. Frodo is 18lbs and 4oz. He was born 4oz heavier than Samwise. When Sam met his new best friend, he did several pronking hops through the pasture in excitement! We are so happy Samwise has his buddy. I can't wait to watch their friendship! 5/14/2023 1 Comment Mother's Day Hopes....Today, I was greeted with amazing Mother's Day gifts from our four little ones. My favorite part was everyone's joy of being with each other... and the hand written letters from the children. After some pancakes, I went out to spend time with the alpacas, hoping that Foxy decided to have her baby. I'm a ball of nerves waiting for Foxy's cria to drop! I'm hoping she has a normal, healthy birth. I'm also eager and excited to see what her cria looks like. The sire; Grey Goose from Laurel Springs Farm is a Dark Silver Grey beauty. I'm hopeful with both of their fluffy ears the baby will come out with the most amazing fluffy ears. Samwise can't wait to have a playmate. He's started teasing the ladies by nibbling on their back ankles. They do not like that, as you can imagine. I sat out in the pasture for little over 2 hours, simply observing them. I love their personalities. Right now Foxy is in a lot of discomfort and when she lays down she softly hums and sometimes gives a little loud moan. The baby is settling into the birth canal I imagine. She's usually a much more chill lady. She is currently the matriarch of the herd and is still calm in demeanor around the others. Now a days though, anyone getting too close to her or getting on her personal space bubble needs to be ready to get a face full of spit. Foxy has also been more agreeable to my presence closer to her personal space, which I attribute to wanting reassurance since she saw me give Samwise comfort and assistance when he was a newborn. His birth was normal and so he only needed minimal interventions; drying off, checking temp, naval dipped a few times, and weight. Alpacas remind me a lot of Ents from Lord of the Rings. They are gentle and calm usually. They aren't hasty in anything they do except for running away when the wind blows too hard without warning or if someone is coming into the barn unexpectedly from the back entrance. They like routine and slow pacing. I find their temperament to be a perfect avenue for teaching mindfulness and how to be slow and present with your body and inner space. P.S: always wear Sunscreen... 3/26/2023 0 Comments Samwise of the ShireDany gave birth to a little brown (for now) boy March 25th. Her birth was incredibly uncomplicated and she was semi attentive. Dany has a tendency to be a little bit more of an aloof mother. She loves her cria and she loves Sam just as much as her other babies, she just does generally seem to want to do her own thing despite having motherly responsibilities. Dany is not as patient with nursing and we needed to supplement Sam just a little bit, however she quickly realized what to do and after a day Samwise was a great nurser and Dany allowed him to nurse as he wanted.
Samwise is our first cria born at Fluffy Honey Farm and his birth opened a passion in me I didn't quite realize. I love the birth process and assisting with birth. I think it is an incredible moment in time and I am at ease assisting the dam with her birthing experience. For Dany and Sam that meant sitting back and letting everything happened as needed. Sam's birth was laid back and Dany was a pro at knowing exactly what to do and was as calm as can me. |
Fluffy Honey FarmHaving alpacas has become a life changing shift in our family. We see the alpacas as the most amazing animals to sit and be with. This blog is dedicated to the mindful act of being in observance with alpacas. Archives
